How do i find out what headunit fits my car?

I have a 1997 Rover 420GSI.

I want a new head unit because the factory ones are rubbish. So how do i find out what kind of head unit do i need. Ive looked at the back on some and they look nothing like mine and the wiring is different to mine installed.
