My husband recently came into money and told me he paid the mortgage off. I am a co-signer on the mortgage but other than that, he has never shown me any paperwork at all. When I asked him for some sort of proof that he had indeed paid it off, he assured me he would. That was two weeks ago. Tonight, he told me the mortgage was with a company called Countrywide. I looked it up and discovered it was taken over by Bank of America last year. He also told me it is paid out of California. We took the mortgage out here in Texas. Again, I have seen nothing to prove any of this other that my signatures on the documents. He keeps all of his finances to himself. I need to find out if our mortgage has indeed been paid off. How do I go about doing this?
