How do I find out family history?

Okay, this is might be confusing so I'll try to explain my best. My Dad has 3 siblings. Him, my uncle & my aunt were all adopted; my other aunt is my grandparents' actual daughter.

We have a close family friend who passed away a few years ago, who my mother thinks could be my father's biological father as well as his brother John's. Whenever I've asked my father about this close family friend, he either says: "Oh, he's just a good friend of the family's" or he'll say: "That's your grandfather's brother." I have no idea what the truth is, I'm not sure he wants me to know or really even knows himself.

Obviously my family has a ton of secrets. It took my dad 17 years to tell me that him, his brother and one sister were all adopted. I had already known though because my mother told me after her and my dad got divorced. My mother also thinks my Dad's biological mother's last name is McKenna. She isn't completely sure though.

So my question is: How can I find out who my Dad's biological parents are? If there is even a way. I know he could care less who they are but I'm just curious.

If this confused you at all, please let me know and I'll try my best to reword it. Thank you!
All I know is that he was born July 5, 1960. I have no idea were though, I know for a fact it was in the U.S. but that doesn't really narrow it down.

Ask the mormon church to tell you how to go about. They are into family trees. Even if you are not a member they will be happy to help you

Start with his birth certificate, do you know the date, town and county he was born in. Those are public records and a copy can be obtained from the county clerk for a fee.
