How do i find my family's military records?

both my dad and grandfather were in the navy and i would like to know were i can view those records? my father died in 2001 and i didn't know he was in the navy tell about 3 months ago so can some one please help me find these records i would like my kids to see them and know who my dad was. and i dint want websites were you have to pay because i was scammed by one last week

Well you might be able to get their records using a free trial on ancestry.com They claim they have access to stuff like that, but we did not find my husbands grandfathers enlisted records or anything. WHen I got out of the army they give you a form (dd214) and the guy told me DO NOT lose this, it is very hard to get a new one. So sorry I can't be of better help, but I think that if you guys don't have one now, that it will be hard to get anything.
