no it is not the same, your vin can help you find the engine code,
but there not the same,

how can the vin help you find your engine code?
simple the vin contains the chassis code (4th 5th and 6th number of the vin) for instance my car is a EJ6, if you were to see my VIN it starts 2HGEJ6....
so if you google EJ6 Civic, you can find out which engine came stock in it.
