Open the first photo you want to compose in photoshop. Click on 'image' from the top menu, then click on 'canvas size.'

From here, this dialog box controls the size of your canvas... NOT the photograph. To clarify this, think of the photograph as a painting, and if you make the canvas bigger... the painting stays the same size, you're just adding blank canvas around it.

So now, my favorite settings would be this: (there are some other ways to enter the information in these boxes)

- Make certain the "relative size" is checked
- Instead of your default units (probably already displaying inches or pixels) click the drop down boxes and use 'percent'
- Now you should see both lines with a 0% in each box.
- In the height box, type 100.
- In that funky arrow diagram below it, click on the top arrow. Now it should show that from the top of the canvas, extra space will be added below it ONLY. If you dont click the top arrow, it will add space both on top and below the photograph.
- Hit ok, and you've just doubled your canvas size, with the extra space below the original photo.

Now, crop the other photo to be the same size as the first (as they have done in the example you provided), open it, and literally drag it into that window and place it below the other photograph.

Have fun!
