How do I edit a flash web site template?

I downloaded a flash template and I am having trouble editing. when I open the file I edit and export as swf and it goes insane... what am I doing wrong?
It is a template of a website, the site I downloaded from told me to use flash cs3 to newer, I'm using cs4.
