How do I dress sharp?

Im 19 and i want to switch my style up since im going to start college. I currently dress like a teen with graphic design t shirts jeans ect. im not saying its bad but i want to dress sharp for special occasions and to simply go out everyday. I want to give out a positive perception about me and my style saying that i look like i got my **** together. I wouldn't want people to look at me and think negative as if im some hooligan. Im also not very preppy to dress in hollister but i don't mind the collar shirts.My question is how can i dress sharp with out looking "boring"?Also im a man and i would appreciate honest opinions. thank you.
