How do I draw a perfect oval for my architecture class?

It doesn't need to be free hand, but I only have something to make circles with. I need to make an oval where the longest side is exactly three inches long. It's due tomorrow. Are there any tricks for making an oval that looks good enough to be considered "drafted"?
The paper I'm using is too thick to trace on.
(By the way, the project is drawing a two point perspective of a container. I chose a cup that I made, so I need the oval for the top part. Archictecture isn't as easy as drawing ovals.)
