How do i do the "out of focus" thing?

ok, i'm not a professional photographer, i do it for fun in my spare time. i have the Canon PowerShot A630, 8 mp. it's got a lot of buttons / functions (auto, portrait, landscape, SCN, replace color.... etc) & several shoot thingies (C, M, P, Av, Tc, P).

i want to know how do take a picture like the ones you see sometimes, where the thing that is close to the camera is very clear & sharp, & the stuff far away are blurry. i don't even know if this is possible with my camera, but i want to know.
