How do I delete yahoo chat popup box on my email page?

Suddenly, for no reason that I know, I'm getting a constant very annoying popup box on my email page that never gives up -- telling me some anonymous person I never heard of and have no desire to know about is online. I don't want to chat with anyone via email. How do I remove this feature permanently? I have removed the tick from "enable connection related features" in Options, but that does not help. I clicked "hide" on the "chat and mobile box" that has appeared also suddenly on the email page, and every other option on that little box (which I don't want either) but to no avail. thanks
