How do I delete my saved URL history on IE8?

I know this question has been asked a thousand times but none of the provided answers have helped me. I have IE8 & I've recently noticed that some history has been saved on the drop-down section of my URL box. When I start to type a URL, a list of previously visited sites appears in the drop-down box. I know how to delete my browsing history & I've tried adjusting the Auto-Complete settings. I've even tried using my Registry Editor but nothing seems to work. I can't delete the history manually by clicking "delete" or the red "X" next to the URL. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the history without downloading any cleaner programs? Thanks.
Interestingly enough, the history is gone now. I've been messing around with it for two days & I've tried everything so something must have worked, I just have no idea what it was. I do know it wasn't simply deleting the browsing history. Thanks for your time! =]
