How do I create a logo in Photoshop?

I created a logo in photoshop and want to put it on flyers and posters (I work for promotions company). I save it as a JPEG and then go to insert it on a file hoping to get get just the logo, but it ends up having a white block behind it. How do I get JUST the logo on the flyer??
