How do I connect my Linux to the internet through a usb (vodafone) modem?

I have Ubuntu Desktop Version 10.10 32bit
I can connect it through Ethernet.
It would be easier if I could use my Vodafone Mobile Broadband (USB Modem)
How would I install it to connect to the internet?
I found these sites, which sounds right.
Is there much effort in doing any of this?
