How do i clear the facebook reminders on the top of my blackberry torch? and how do

i receive emails? after the notification has been read it will leave a number at the top of the screen and on other application there's the facebook symbol how do i clear this? also i have an email account set up but only received emails one day how do i set it up to receive hourly?
