How do I check me Trane XE 1000, I have the test and charge manifold and r-12?

I had a employee install this for me and I bought all the equipment and he's gone to the big house and my compressor and line froze last night and I don't remember how to check and which line goes where all I do remember is purging the lines prior to checking it.I am pretty handy at this sort of thing I just have a bad memory. Thanks
Its 74 outside and 78 in.100% humidity if that matters
I have R- 22 not 12.
The inside unit was changed out four to five years ago. We vacuumed and replaced .
