How do i change the cigarette lighter in a 2000 pontiac sunfire?

You'll need to remove the panel and unplug the wire connector and then try unscrewing the lighter socket assembly.If you want to gain some experience and perhaps save a few bucks try going to a U pick auto wreckers , plus you might be then able to just remove one with the whole panel still intack that you can then easily install.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way some parts stores sell universal lighter socket replacements and they might even help you or replace the part for you free of labour costs.Also most times the problems with lighter sockets is the metal or copper you see inside it is bent and by removing the fuse for the lighter and using long noise pliers or a screw driver you can bend the metal back.So before you try and replace it be sure that the socket is at fault, and check the wiring going to it bec many times I've found them to have a loose or poor connection.Basically the tube part of the socket is the negative or ground and the centre metal inside the tube is the positive 12 volt connector.
