I had to replace the battery the old corroded and worn out posts with new ones on our 2004 Chevy Venture today. Once I had all the battery cables reconnected I could only get the auto to start once. After a second try everything went dead. So, I disconnected and reconnected the cables again. I thought I had left something loose or unconnected. Once the cables and wires were reconnected a second time I had the same problem happen again, starts once then will not start again. Turns out it is caused by the anti-theft device. The local Chevy dealership wants me to have it towed (yeah, for about 100 bucks!) in so they can hook it up to a machine to reprogram the code, or something like that. They want $120.00 to do this. We're on a budget. That is really pushing it. I also feel it is a rip-off and unethical. They want me to do all that simply because I was doing basic maintenance on our Venture and did not know any better about anti-theft devices. What a headache. At any rate is there way to reprogram the anti-theft device or a way to bypass it? I don't want the anti-theft device functioning anyways. What if I need to replace the battery in the near future or the post corrode again?
Any answers would be appreciated.
