situation)? The thing is my mom's a nurse and she gets paid well. The last time I filled out fafsa i wasn't eligible b/c the family income was high i guess? But the thing is that my mom is the sole provider for our household and she literally pays for EVERYTHING. With all of the bills she has to pay now, she can't afford to pay college tuition on top of that. And i am in community college right now but i want to transfer to university. Obviously fafsa only sees the number part of the income and they don't know the whole situation...so how do i become eligible?? I don't want to burden my mom with college tuition.

You become eligible by opting to not include your mother's financial information. On the FAFSA there is a point you come across that allows you to skip the part where you give your parent's financial info. By skipping this part you are essentially declaring yourself independent (though I believe you can only do this if you are 18+ years old) of your parents. By skipping this section you are basically saying you, and ONLY you, are responsible for tuition. Then the government looks at ONLY your financial information.

Then again, personal experience has taught me that you practically need to be destitute in order to qualify for grants. But at least they'll give you loans.

Well of course she pays for EVERYTHING. Just like the rest of us. that's nothing special. I'm sure they offered you student loans that you don't have to pay back till after you get out of school and work study programs. Take them both and work in the summer to make more money. You'll appreciate school much more.

i'm in the same situation and i wish i knew too :( i guess you could try applying to a bunch of small scholarships go to fastweb.com and zinch.com
