I'm an avid camper and hiker here in the Midwest and I had some questions about safety. I was wondering what would be the possible dangers of encountering a brown bear or grizzly. I've only encountered a black bear up here in Minnesota, but I've heard that the ones in California and Utah can be more dangerous. Would I have to take the same precautions as black bears or do I need to do anything different? I know how to store my food properly and dispose of waste away from camp, but what would be the safest way to avoid bears in the wilderness?
