we live in chicago, my wife and i have an 8 yo and 10 yo. my brother is going through a rough time and can not take care of his son. he is staying with Friends and bouncing around. i asked my brother if i can help him help his son by adopting him and maybe provide a more stable environment for him to grow up in. he has agreed that maybe that would be in his best interest to be in a safe, stable, loving environment. the mother has been out of the picture since he was 1 yo. the boy is still not registered to go to school and i worry.i asked my wife and she also has agreed to provide for him.
how do i adopt my 5 yo nephew? how long is the process?can i do this without a lawyer?
