how do i add music to my htc imagio?

i cannot figure it out! when i plugged it into my computer it downloaded the device software but it doesnt register as being connected so i tried just opening the files via 'my computer' and inserting them into the section labeled as 'music' but they don't show up on the phone =(
... haha my first smart phone and i just got it yesterday so im new to all this ^^"
