If my guess is correct, you have three gears in front and six in back.
You will need a new rear freewheel with 8 gears (when replaced with this, it will add six more speeds(3x8 = 24) to your bike)and freewheel removal as well as a bolt down vice to use it with, (bolt to a table)you will also likely need a new (maybe) rear derailleur, a longer cable and shifter for it, and maybe a longer chain and axle. At this point it will cost around $50 to $150.
The most restricting limits are money and the size of the frame (If the wheel and gear assembly are too large you will not be able get it back on the frame).
If you give me pictures I can help you determine what tools and parts you need and what to do with them.
You may be able to get a mechanic to do it for you; however, if were you I would just buy a new bike.
Also, I offer mail-in tune up service at a moderate fee.
