how do I add 50 horsepower to a 2009 mazda miata mx-5 for less than $4000.00?

Nitrous bottle. I wouldn't put nitrous in anything I own, but that's the way to accomplish what you asked.

Bottom line: You don't.

The Miata has 167 engine horsepower, to start with.

At the wheels, that translates to only around 130 or so.

So, by wanting to increase your horsepower by 50, you are actually wanting to increase it's output by almost 40%.

That doesn't come cheap.

Intake, headers, exhaust, will cost you around $1500. And only net you a gain of around 5-6 wheel horsepower.

And immediately void your warranties.

You could get a turbo kit, but for it to be properly set up, tuned, etc, will cost you far beyond $4000.

And still void your warranties. And MIGHT not even get you the 50 hp you're shooting for.

I would recommend cold air intake and cat back exhaust. This does not void your warranty. It would void the dealership replacing parts that pertain to those systems if there is a problem but the parts are removable. So you could throw stock back on if the need came up. This would probably boost you at least 40-60 hp and cost less then $1000. OR better yet look up performance chips for your ecu. These would be removable and completely undetectable to the naked eye. Be careful though often times performance chips need other mods to keep from breaking engine components.
