How do I activate my T-Mobile Sidekick LX?

I broke my Sidekick LX about a year ago, and I'm planning on buying a new one on eBay. I'm going with the Sidekick Prepaid Plan again. I still have my old SIM card, and I thought I could just use that one and reactivate it with my new phone (cause I have all my old contacts and whatnot on that SIM card) but I was told I can't use an old SIM once it expires. Is there a way to activate my phone with a new SIM card and still retrieve my stuff from my old SIM card?
 
To activate your T-Mobile Prepaid service, call 1-877-778-2107.
You can use the old prepaid card, and you will keep that #.
You may be able to add money to that without having to reactivate it depending on how long the minutes expired.

What you have to do is manually add the contacts to the phone or write them down.
Download all of the pictures onto your computer with the USB.
