How do Gamestop Pre-Orders Work?

Can I pre-order the Halo Reach online for in-store pickup, go to Gamestop in the morning after the midnight release and am i guaranteed a copy with a special code from pre-ordering? or should I go to the store myself and reserve a copy instead of doing it online? and will i be guaranteed a code?
