how do fish survive in a pond that nobody takes care of?

theres a big pond down the road from me probably over 10 feet deep and theres bass in it. does the a pond like that have a natural filtration ? can i put any fish i want in there? im thinking of putting koi and catfish in there. i live in wewoka oklahoma.

some fish can survive on algae because thats the food their body is able to get energy off of since thats the enery their body needs.

They take care of themselves by cleaning out the water and go down to the store to purchase some oxigen weed and fish flakes.

Well meaning people like you, has brought about legislation that will affect everyone whether in the Fish, Bird, Reptile, rodent industry to keep non-native species out of the country. No doubt that anyfish you add anyway will only end up as food for the large mouth.
It's called H.R. 669: NONNATIVE WILDLIFE INVASION PREVENTION ACT
is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of Representatives ("H.R."). The bill targets the Pet Industry to ban the import of any NON_Native Species whether wild or bred into the country.
A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate and then be signed by the President before it becomes law. 2009-2010 Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act

Yes, that pond has natural filtration. It's being fed fresh water by a stream or spring. The waste decays back into the soil and the sand on the bottom acts like a filter straining waste and bacteria. The plants also add to the filtration eating up nitrates and adding oxygen.

I would check your local laws before you put anything in that pond. Some places have pretty stiff penalties for introducing non-native wildlife into the environment. Plus, who owns the land? They may not want you adding fish to their pond.
