How do ducks get from the Boston Public Garden to the esplanade?

The children's book "Make Way for Ducklings" talks about ducks crossing Storrow Drive at Mt. Vernon Street many years ago. That crossing is no longer possible, even with the help of a friendly policeman.

Is there a route available that ducks use to take their ducklings between the Public Garden and the Esplanade?
