EASY.

So easy, a caveman can do it.

Put it in S.

The + means to shift up.
The - means to shift down.
The D is automatic drive, where the automatic transmission changes gears for you.

For the Sport mode, you get to choose when to shift gears. That is all. That makes it more fun and sporty. But not faster.

The Tachometer is the gauge that has the numbers 1 through 8, or 1000 through 8000. That is the RPM gauge.

For fuel effiency, shift gears up(+) at 3000rpm.
For speed, shift gears at 5000-6000rpm, which is what it does in automatic mode when you floor it.
Shift down gears when you are slowing down and the roms are decreasing to 2000rpm.

When you stop the car, it automatically shifts back to the 1st gear.

Not shifting at the right time, or shifting too late and going into the REDLINE on the RPM gauge will cause engine or transmission failure.

So I would just keep it in D(Automatic Drive)

The are not good on gas. They are heavy and the aero dynamics are lacking which causes drag and doesn't feel like you are getting the full performance of the vehicle.
