How do authors build vocabulary?

I've read many books, I'm a fanatic when it comes to unique literature, however I'm having trouble in structuring my vocabulary either because it's hard to comprehend the word or it's meaning, even when I'm near a dictionary, or I never get a chance to use it in my daily life. The reason why I want to learn my vocabulary is because I want to become an author, I have had many ideas since childhood, now I'm seven-teen and my story has also evolved, and only makes me want to release it all, that I feel like my thoughts is about to over flow subconsciously; I've never had a single day not thinking about it. So as I type, I plead for your help. You have no idea how it has affected me, emotionally and socially(but in a way, that help structure it more)

You can build up your vocabulary by reading, reading, and reading. Most authors get their vocabulary from just years of reading. You can also try going to places that offer "words of the day" and then trying to mix that word into your life.

You can also try things like crossword puzzles. You'd be surprised at how much your vocabulary can expand by using them.
