how difficult is it to train a puppy to get on well with scatty cats?

we are thinking about getting a dog, we aren't sure if we want a Dog or a puppy yet.

We have two cats, both are quite scatty but cuddly. They've seen dogs, and they haven't flinched at a dog passing them outside.

Is it difficult to train a puppy to get on with cats? Or is it best to just get a slightly older dog that can be around cats?

I have had cats and dogs together before but the dog was 17 and the cat was 19 so they weren't exactly fit enough to run after eachother lol
