How difficult is it to replace the alternator on a 2002 Honda CR-V EX?

I put in a new fully charged battery and hooked up my battery charger to it to test the alternator and a fault was found with the alternator. It looks like I'll need a new alternator.

It also looks rather difficult to change. Can i do this or should I get it done by a mechanic?

Also any idea on how far I can drive on a fully charged battery without the alternator working?
 
if you got the tools anything can be done. with a fully charged battery I think my friend who also has a faulty alternator drove for a good 3 hours. I'm not 100 hundred percent positive though.
