How did they know it wasn't a suicide?

A detective walked into a house where a man committed suicide, sitting next to him was a tape recorder, the detective pressed play and it said "I no longer wish to live" and a gun went off. The detective said to the cop " This was no suicide, this was a homicide." How does he make this conclusion?
 
Because the tape wouldn't have been rewinded to the beginning if he had shot himself right then.
