How did TDK get classed as a 12A

Well, to be fair, I can accept 12 as a sensible bridge between PG and 15. So, no, I wouldnt get rid of 12, although again you could argue it was a cynical money idea in 1989 as well.

As we have 12, I didnt and dont see the need for 12A.

I agree. I think the 12A rating is perfect for the Harry Potter films, as they're a bit too dark for PG but by making it a 12 they'd be isolating too much audience. I think the 12A rating was a good idea, but should have been considered more carefully on this particular film.

Here here.
Parents in this country are frankly bizzare. They complained that they didn't have the choice when Spiderman was a 12, to choose for their child whether it was suitable... When they are given that choice, parents are up in arms that the rating is "misleading"... Well it isn't. 12A simply means 12 year old on your own, younger with a parent who makes an informed decision... However most parents seem to be unable to even use trailers (where Joker carries a knife in nearly all of them) to inform them of the potential violence.

The problem here isn't the rating, its the stupid parents.

I'm thinking of taking my Mum to see this, and I was wondering if there is any sexual content in the new Batman film? I don't like going to see a film with my Mum if there are any scenes of a sexual nature or sexual language, no matter how little(I know it's a 12a, but seen some in 12a movies that I would be uncomfortable viewing alongside my Mum). Strippers in a scene type stuff too.

If not then I will be taking her to see it, if there is then I'm off with a friend instead. Violence and language(non sexual) is fine.

Cheers.

When I went to see the film again on the weekend, when they showed Mr. Dent's...face, the girl next to me said loudly, "This is a 12?!" lol

What the hell?

TDK is all about Batman struggling with trying to do good when others are copying him doing bad things. Batman NEVER uses a gun or a knife..... He NEVER KILLS...... That is apart of his mythology.

Wanted is a glorified gun movie..... all about how violence is great and fun..... Wanted has no morals whatsoever. The Joker on the other hand is just frightening.... If funny..... But nothing else.

I think you are just toooooooooo sensitive. Don't watch Bambi.... That's my advice.

i could of sworn the first 12a movie to be relised was Lord of the rings: followship of the ring. something about it on the news at the time

first movie to be a 12 on VHS - ace ventura 1 or 2 - i think!!!

yep - i thought it may have been a little voilent for the kiddy winkles - but as informed by paretns who took their children to see it - it all appears not to have been a problem. as long as the child knows what is right and wrong - down to excellent parenting.

can just imagine - adults seeing Jaws and freaking out that their kiRAB shouldnt see it!!!

times are changing. all the movies certified as 18 in the late 80s will properly be 15's or 12s now a days.

saying that - it has worked in reverse. i remember seeing Jaws 3D on the big screen when i was 5. still have the 3d glasses. this was under the old certified classifications for movies. i think it was an A. on VHS - it was a 15 and i wasnt allowed to buy it when i was older!

Take this from another point of view.

Who is to blame for children being exposed to any kind of violence, sexual content or indecent scenes in a film/book/comic or computer game; because people choose to ignore any warnings that are put into place?

12A rating is there for a reason, it should inform parents that this film contains scenes that may not be suitable for anyone younger then 12. If parents choose to ignore that, then they only have themselves to blame.

Spot on^ Also it's not just parents choosing to ignore advice, it's them not making the effort to find out and then complaining about it afterwarRAB.

OKay.... maybe I was being a bit harsh on you in my previous post, Cornucopia. Yes, I agree the themes explored in TDK are darker and more complex for a film just rated 12A..... Perhaps rating it a 15 might have been the right balance.... I mean me and you both agree on one thing.... This isn't a kiRAB movie..... Thank goodness.

The movies tone and ideas are more closer to Michael Mann's Heat than Batman and Robin.... My argument is that with Batman Begins...... Parents shouldn't have seen this darker side coming.

And another thing I dont get...... Pirates of the Caribbean sequels had scenes which I thought were not for kiRAB...... Remember that long drawn out hanging sequence in the last film? A kid got hanged in that one.... Yet no one (apart from Mark Kermode) complained about it.... And that was from a kiRAB movie- although it was rated 12A!

i think 12A was the right rating to be honest...fair enough the two scenes with the joker and his knife stories pushed the boundries but Harvey reminded me of Imhotep from the Mummy movies which were PG's

i can see that people are worried about the two knife scenes and fair enough with the current state of knife crime in the UK but i dont think those scenes in any way glorified knives because the Joker is clearly insane and in no way "cool" when he's threatening the people

There are no sexual scenes or references in it. The most sexual scene would be The Joker saying to Rachel "Hello, beautiful." Or Christian Bale shirtless (a welcome scene imo :p )

It should have been a 15 cert, btw what with everything else mentioned in this thread.
