The actual question is "How did a historical person affect the history of his/her civilization?"
This is for ancient history class and I chose Jesus.
Any ideas?

The historical person had minimal effect during his lifetime. He was the leader of a minor Jewish sect.

But his ideas changed the world.

There is a pretty good argument that Paul, by deciding to preach to the gentiles (or winning that doctrinal argument), had a much greater historical effect. It was that decision that laid the groundwork for what the Church became.

Well back then there was no central religion and then Jesus came and began preaching about God or Christianity. Which came to be one of the largest religions in the planet, today with nearly 3 billion followers.
