How did Calpurnia in Harper Lee's book "To Kill a Mockingbird" educate herself?

Calpurnia is a strong, self educated black woman who works as a maid for the Finches. Though she has a job at their house, she has a motherly role in the book.
Calpurnia is a strong, self-educated black woman who works at the Finch hose as a maid, but more thought of as a family member. She plays a motherly role to Scout and Jem and a sisterly role to Atticus.
