How could a person in ancient times, without the excuse of science or

anything like that, become an atheist? A lot of atheists today have the luxury of falling back on science, but I'm wondering how a person who doesn't know how lightning is formed or how the world was created, how does an ancient person become atheist, how would it have happened in the absence of explanations?

Hi,

The reasons why people reject God are not primarily scientific.

People are natural enemies of God and tend towards sin. Let's say that you wanted sex outside of marriage. Its therefore important for you to reject God in order for your "conscious" to be less troubled.

The other reason people reject God is: pain. If there has been too much pain in life, then people tend to blame God and are angry at him. (If you click on my profile "about me" you will see this explained in further depth.)

Atheism and science have nothing to do with one another. There are atheists that dont know jack about science, and there are PhD's who go to church. So intellect, rationality, and science have no baring on faith.

There are a lot of atheists now who fall back on science, sure, but most of them dont understand science and those that do make irrational leaps in judgment, view and interpret the world through the prejudices of atheism, and take on faith much of what they dont understand.

An ancient atheist is no different than a modern one: They have no personal experience to give them reason to believe in a god.

Atheists then would rationalize the same way atheists now do.

For my Knowledge, There was NO one as atheist in Ancient time,Because
They only created the God, In a vast jungle of Forests of darkness they feared,Sun light gives some hope to them,So they first began to worship Sun.They need some one to give them courage and look after them, they made furious human structure in stone outside of their living place and began to pray for their safety,Even today in India They build large Furious Human God and pray Him.

Science is no refuge for atheists - science does not explain why all this is going on around us - only that there seems to be some order and cause and effect.

The ancients were no doubt terrified of thunder and lightning - and everything else. How not? You can forgive them for imagining that it must be angry gods. But shame on us, 5,000 years later, for still thinking that. We should at least have arrived at the realization by now that we simply don't know. And all our vivid imagination in the world is no substitute.

It was as possible then as it is now to say that an appeal to the existence of a god is no explanation at all. It's just that those who did in ancient societies were probably a little more on their own than those doing so today.

say i don't know

claim to worship another god and not do it

argue against a god based on logical problems stemming from godhood
