How come when every singer does a movie they just HAVE to sing in it?

I mean I noticed this with Mandy Moore in "Princess Diaries". Hilary Duff in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie", Brittany Spears in "Crossroads", Miley Cyrus in "The Last Song". Like they're not even playing as themselves in those movies, and neither does the plot really have to do much with singing (well maybe the lizzie mcguire movie but I don't remember that show being about how Lizzie could sing) so I don't see the point. Is it just to broadcast that they can sing to make more profit or something? It just seems like when they get a role in a movie they use it as an opportunity to jump up and down and tell everyone watching that they can sing.

I'm not dissing them or anything, I don't have any hatred toward any of them and I did enjoy each of these movies (that's why I watched them in the first place) but when acting, can't they just stick to acting? Because I'm sure we all know that Miley Cyrus has a record deal. We don't really need to be reminded..
