How come we haven't invented a giant fan to blow away hurricanes?

It would be much more economic to build a giant mirror in space which will focus an energy beam from the sun onto the Middle East like a death ray. I think it's already been done before in one of the James Bond movies though... so hard to come up with actual new ideas in this day and age. Hollywood already did everything, including destroying the world in 2012 and building three Noah's Arks to save mankind and all the animals. What they haven't done yet though is made a movie with a giant fan that blows away hurricanes, I should send this thread to some big-shot producer.
 
One idea that I have come up with, while it may sound a little far-fetched on paper, when you really think about it, it's quite possible.

Launch a space shuttle into outerspace, have them lower down a long vacuum hose, suck the hurricane straight into outerspace.
 
All we need is a gigantic box fan to mount above the hurricane. The blades at least 100 miles across and maybe a 500 trillion horsepower motor to drive the van. A way to mount the fan in the sky, a bigass extension cord and a couple nuclear power plants to power it.
 
They had a big section on how to reduce the class 5 hurricanes in Super Freakanomics, basically just a huge funnel that floats in the ocean and forces the warm water down to the bottom of the funnel.
 
But if the fan is blowing both away, than mission has been accomplished.

I mean, it's re-directing the threat somwhere else, and we might look like a nation of assholes, but the important part is that we have avoided danger for the time being..
 
I mean, the millenium falcon was able to do something like this in the core of the Death Star. Our fleet in the Atlantic might be able to pull this off but it might be a trap.
 
Yeah but what happens if when you turn the vacuum off, the air keeps flowing out into outer space, similar to siphoning gas out of a car?

I bet you'd feel silly if your idea stopped the hurricane but sucked all the air right off of Earth and into space.
 
Hmm... well that may just as well be, but it's simple common sense solutions we are talking her, not science related to the atmosphere.

I think the latter would lose this fight.

In theory it's been proven that, given you had enough firepower, could blow up a hurricane and disperse it's evil winRAB by shooting enough high power missiles to the mother core.
