how come there are a ton of more us army casualties than marines?

I was recently looking at a website displaying all the casualties in the iraq/afghanistan war and the army takes way more casualties than the marines. I thought the marines are the first one to go into combat? Is it because the marines are more trained? thanks

There are 550,000 active duty Army soldiers and 200,000 USMC soldiers. They are supplemented by 558,000 Army reserve/guard and 50,000 USMC reserve soldiers.

When you outnumber someone 3:1 in combat, you will generally take 3 times more casualties.

Better trained? You'd have to ask someone who had been through both USMC and Army training to get an objective answer.
