congressman and was a Republican? Hiram Rhodes Revels (September 27, 1827[1] – January 16, 1901) was the first African American to serve in the United States Senate. Since he preceded any African American in the House, he was the first African American in the U.S. Congress as well. He represented Mississippi in 1870 and 1871 during Reconstruction.

Republican Party was founded on the platform of ENDING SLAVERY

Southern Democrats seceded from U.S. based solely on Lincoln's victory

80% of House Republicans & 82% of GOP Senators voted for Civil Rights

In the Senate Democrats lead a filibuster of the Civil Rights law

Only 61% of House Democrats voted for Civil Rights

Southern Democrats voted House 7% for and Senate 5% for Civil Rights

Republican Party - Freed Blacks from Slavery, gave them the vote and defended their civil rights while Democrats seceded to continue slavery and organized the KKK to terrorize the blacks who dared exercise their new found rights.

Does the current 90% slave like devotion to Democrats make any sense?

Does putting all your elected power into one party make any sense?

Democrats give a pass to former KKK Byrd and his use of the N-word on Foxnews and pass now on PA congressman Kanjorski calling minorities - defective and not good Americans - yet Trent Lot a Republican says something nice to Thurmond on his 100th Birthday and it sets off Democrat and Media demanding he resign.
