How come no one has tried breeding Lions into "pets" yet like we bred wolves into dogs?

I'm using the term "pets" loosely here to mean 'helpful to man.' You know like how dogs & horses have been bred from wolves to be helpful to man in all sorts of tasks. Yes the breeding made the wolves evolve into something smaller and weaker, but less threatening to man (dogs). Since Lions are one of the more social big cats, they should be the easiest to breed in the hopes of creating a bond between them and their human owners. I imagine, just like with wolves, breeding big cats for domestication would make them also smaller and weaker, but would make them somewhat trainable too, yes?
