How can you tell the sex of a turtle?

if the bottom of the shell is convex (goes out) then it is probably a female. if the bottom is concave (goes inward) then its most likely a male. Also males tend to have thicker tales than females. Males usually have very long front claws (but if it is a young turtle then you may not be able to tell by the claws). GOOD LUCK! :)
