How can you find the history of the computer?

I accidentally shut down my sisters lap top and lost all the files and other important things she has been minimized. How can I know what were the files minimized, so I can open them again and keep it like I didn't even touch. Please please be quick if not my sister will cream at me. Thank you soo much.
 
You have to go to a restore point prior to your screwing with the computer. But I suspect you may not have the skills for this! Can you tell me which OS the computer is running?
