How can verizon mobiles work with other phone carriers and prepaid ones?

if you have a blackberry storm, or any other verizon phone that comes with a sim card you can flash it to work on att or tmobile.

A Verizon phone can be made to work on other CDMA carrier networks through a method called "flashing". This means (in the US) carriers like Sprint and Cricket could be used. Verizon phones cannot be made to work on GSM carriers like AT&T or TMobile.

Is there a way a verizon celular phone can work iwth other mobile carriers?...the phone's not activated with verizon anymore and want to use it with other companies prepaid or montly plan..but I don't know if there's a way to make it work and how I do it...appreciate any answers..thanks
