How can two siblings raised in the same environment and family be so different?

My sister is a grouchy, irritable, control freak who is a devote Christian.

I'm fairly well laid back, I like to joke and laugh, I don't care what anyone does unless it affects me and I'm an atheist.

I've seen this sort of things in other families. How does this happen?
Edit: These are just some examples of our differences. I could go on and say things like, I drink, she doesn't. I'm kind of the "bad boy" and she's a "goody two-shoes." Things like that.
 
You are both born with your own unique personality. Your lives are still very different and you have experienced very different things. Even identical twins raised the same are born quite different than each other in what they think, understand, and believe. You live different lives and travel different paths probably for different reasons. You are still two unique people.

it happens because being raised together/being a family, has nothing to do with someones personality.Your parents can raise you to be who they want you to be but in the end of the day we all go about out own paths and do what we feel are right.Being identical twins for an example,doesn't mean they will act they same and like the same things.Duh!!!

It has nothing to do with being a so called christian but the inner nature of a person and how they generally feel about life. What you say about you don't care what they do so you don't usually hold grudges and she inside is not happy so she doesn't let herself relax. Its about choices.
