How can the class clown ask out the goody-goody?

There is this girl I like, and I'm a bit confused on how I should ask her out. We've been friends for about a year, and I met her in theatre class when she was a Freshman and I was a Sophomore. Back then she had a crush on me and was inviting me to everything she could, whether it be through notes on my desk when I wasn't looking or just hinting it. I was involved with another girl back then, and I shrugged it off. One day I heard her talking to her friend about me, and she told her she "like" liked me, and I sort of brushed that off too. Don't get me wrong, we were great friends in that class, it's just I wasn't interested in her. Then we both got pulled into an improv marriage scene together, us being groom and bride. Everyone was was telling us to kiss, and I'm pretty sure the teacher was thumb-upping us, but in the end we just hugged. Ha. So now a year later, I realize EXACTLY what I missed out on. She's the goody two-shoes so to speak, and I'm the class clown at times. I see her every day, and I walk her to her bus. She always waits for me, hugs me, then holds my arm to the buses. I think she might like me still, but I could be wrong. I really like her. She's spontaneous, nice, caring, supporting, loving, and an all-around AMAZING person! I'm trying to get rid of a few bad habits before asking her out. Should I just randomly ask her out while walking down the hall or should I do it over the phone/note/etc. She really is awesome :P!
