How can someone live in stench and not realize it even though they are in clean...

...environments too? I have a friend with 3 large dogs that stay in the living room. She works and socializes outside the home but does not realize that her home smells horribly. She is always asking me to come over for dinner or to watch movies and I always decline.

People get accustomed to even the most noxious smells. Our daughter knows some people who keep ferrets. Their place smells like an untended zoo, but it doesn't seem to bother them.

The only time I can tell what our own house smells like is when we first come home after a week or so away. I can only sense it for a minute or less, then nothing.

You can always tell your friend that you have an "allergic reaction" to dogs.

People get used to their 'scent' of home and like perfumes some people can love and others hate it. You might remind your friend that the dander of the dogs, plus the hair in the carpeting, makes the house very stuffy and you can't breath in an enviroment like that.
