How can John Connor from the Terminator movies be a great military leader?

From viewing John Connor in T2 and T3 ... he doesn't seem like he would make a great military leader who leads a resistance against the machines. He seems to second guess himself a lot and doesn't seem that confident in himself. How can a guy like him be such a great military leader?

Because it's a science fiction movie and you don't have to be a West Point Cadet to be a good military tactician in a Sci-Fi movie.

Luke Skywalker went from being a kid on a desert planet to being a Commander in the Rebel Forces.

You are asking a question you already know the answer to,i think you are just pushing the issue and seeing what people will say.
You know that his father came from the future (sent by john connor himself) to save his mother from being slain-ed by a terminator and his father help train his mother for combat.
His mother mentality was militant due to trying to stay alive from the numerous attacks from the terminators and she passed all her knowledge to her son.
What makes him a great military leader is still un clear but i am sure the next film will clarify all questions.

Remember this is all for the sake of entertainment, but also keep in mind that people can grow up fast. It's a curious thing about human nature. All of his experiences are giving him advice for the future. With all that knowledge, you can easily become a leader.
