How can I win in small claims court with debt collectors?

In January I got a summons for response on a debt that has passed the Statute of Limitations for a credit card that had not been used since August 2006. It is 3yrs here in AL. I filed my answers to the court with what was basically denial of owing this debt collection agency(they bought from Creditor) and asked for Validation that I did in fact owe them. 2 days ago I get in the mail a notice of filing in our AL small claims court. I know for certain that the Statute of Limitations has passed, although I would feel much safer if I would be allowed to file a Discovery, since they never showed any validation whatsoever, especially of me paying them or any contract with their name. Can I bring anything up in court? This seems possibly one sided. Is the burden in their proof? I think that I should be able to know what paperwork they have. I seriously want to know how to win this, or at least get it completely dismissed. I have already been told that I could appeal if for some reason they win a judgment. I just don't want to have this go any further than needs to. My anxiety is high as is.
They can't get anything from me. I am not working, and due to health issues(anxiety a big one) I won't be working anytime soon.
